Cigarettes can increase the desirability of an image of being rebellious and carefree. The media is a huge part of the idea of cigarettes being stylish and trendy and has been throughout the ages of fashion and movie stars. Just as it was desirable to smoke cigarettes in the 50’s, it still is today, but for a different reason. Teenagers like to rebel against the authorities and try to portray the image of being dangerous and carefree about the possible risks and outcomes that come with smoking cigarettes.
