The Culture And Emotion Of Teenage Life

Being a teenager is like being stuck in the middle of two worlds; a childhood, filled with games and ignorance, and adulthood, with responsibility, respect and reality. Between these two stages of life, teenagers and adolescents are bombarded with emotions. They have knowledge but no respect, a taste of responsibility but a selfish way of dealing with it, acknowledging the rules, but rebelling anyway; there is no reality, only looking forward into what, one day, will be real. A concept that has always interested me is the Culture and Emotion of Teenage Life.
Existing in-between reality, it may be difficult for the teenagers themselves, let alone adults, to understand the reasoning behind many of the cultures and emotions that make up their lives and give a motive as to why they do the things that they do. Being a teenager myself, I know first-hand many of the problems that arise from sources such as the media, peers and family.
I would like to try to express the emotions of teenagers under all said pressure and give the viewer an opportunity to enter another’s world, full of pressures, emotion and difference.
Though being a teenager may not always feel as though one is in-between worlds, through my series I would like to show the viewer my idea of the in-between world that I perceive teenagers to be a part of. Through the two extremes; the extreme fantasy and the intense reality, I would like to use many different materials and techniques to achieve two very different types of images. In these two different approaches, I would like to project my idea of unreal aspects of a teenagers life are those ideas that are forced upon them by various different sources, and the honest aspects are the emotions and cultures that are truly their own; the things that truly make them happy. Through the Teenage Pressures, Emotions, Activities, Cultures, Fantasies and Realities, I would like to capture as much as I can in order to give an insight into what I believe is the in-between reality that is Teenage Life.
